Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 44th district since 2017, made a series of statements in early April 2025, covering a range of issues including social security and economic policies. Barragán, who has an academic background with a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles and a JD from the University of Southern California, addressed an audience in San Francisco and took to social media to express concerns affecting American citizens.

On April 5, 2025, Barragán participated in the HandsOff Rally at Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco. She shared, "Great to be in San Francisco today for the #HandsOff Rally at Civic Center Plaza. Americans are energized and mobilized to tell Trump, Musk, and Republicans - Hands Off! Americans are making their voices loud & clear - Hands Off our social security, Medicare and Medicaid."

On April 7, 2025, Barragán addressed the impact of Trump’s tariffs on American families, stating in a tweet that "Trump’s tariffs are a tax on hardworking American families. Plain and simple." She warned how "The Trump Tax is wiping out retirement savings, raising prices on everyday goods, and threatening American jobs. The Trump Tax will hurt ALL Americans – but it’ll hit the people who can least afford."

Later that day, Barragán drew attention to the wage disparity affecting AANHPI women. On April 7, 2025, she tweeted, "For every $1 earned by white, non-Hispanic men, AANHPI women earn 83¢. Many earn even less." She emphasized that the wage gap means having less money to support their families amid rising costs for essentials.
