Nanette D. Barragán, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2017 as a representative of California’s 44th district, recently commented on various national issues through her social media platform. Barragán's experience and connection to her district are reflected in her active engagement with current political topics.

On April 3, 2025, Barragán remarked on a seemingly hypothetical tariff proposal by former President Donald Trump, using humor to address the issue: "Those penguins have been ripping us off for years. Their free lunch is over. Or at least I’m guessing that’s what Trump is thinking with his penguin tariff."

On April 4, 2025, Barragán highlighted the potential consequences of proposed changes to Social Security during a House Democrats' Steering & Policy hearing. She noted the impact of such changes on benefit payments and applications: "This week, @HouseDemocrats held a Steering & Policy hearing on Social Security to hear how the assault on the system will result in delays to benefit payments and applications. We also heard directly from hardworking Americans how they will be harmed from cuts to Social Security."

Later, on the same day, she addressed the broader economic consequences affecting Americans' retirement plans tied to the market. Criticizing the policies of Donald Trump, she stated: "Devastating for so many hardworking Americans who have retirement plans tied to the market. Teachers, nurses, firefighters, and a lot of other workers rely on their 401k when they retire. Donald Trump has hurt so many Americans this week. We’ll pay more for groceries, clothes."
