Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 44th district since 2017, shared her thoughts and actions through a series of tweets on January 22, 2025. The tweets addressed issues ranging from natural disaster recovery to reproductive healthcare advocacy and environmental justice.

On January 22, Barragán commented on the impact of the Eaton and Palisades fires, stating that they had devastated entire communities. She urged political leaders to prioritize federal disaster aid without conditions: "The devastation caused by the #Eaton & #Palisades fires took out entire communities. The road ahead will take years of recovery and rebuilding. I encourage @SpeakerJohnson & @HouseGOP to put politics aside and pass federal disaster aid without strings attached, as we have..."

Later that day, Barragán expressed her condolences for Cecile Richards’ family and colleagues at Planned Parenthood, acknowledging Richards' decade-long advocacy for women's reproductive healthcare: "My thoughts are with Cecile Richards’ family, her Planned Parenthood colleagues through the years, and the countless women whose lives she changed through her advocacy. For over a decade, she dedicated her work to protecting reproductive healthcare access for women everywhere."

In another tweet on January 22, Barragán responded to President Trump's announcement regarding an Executive Order to halt government efforts on environmental justice by introducing new legislation: "Yesterday, President Trump announced an Executive Order to end the government’s work on environmental justice. That’s why I introduced the Commitment to Environmental Justice Act yesterday to codify environmental justice as part of federal policy and decision-making."
