On January 22, 2025, Congressman Garcia announced his appointment to represent the Oversight Democrats on the newly formed DOGE committee chaired by Marjorie Taylor Greene. He expressed strong opposition to the committee's intentions, stating: "Let’s be clear: this committee is designed to destroy federal agencies and the social safety net so that billionaires can enrich themselves."

Later that day, Garcia criticized former President Donald Trump for releasing individuals he described as criminals onto the streets. Reflecting on his visit to the DC jail where he met these individuals, he stated: "They have no remorse for their actions and Trump's pardons are shameful and dangerous."

In another tweet posted on January 22, 2025, Garcia reiterated his stance against Marjorie Taylor Greene's efforts alongside her "billionaire friends" to dismantle social safety nets.
