NORTH LONG BEACH, CA. – On June 2, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán joined TCC Family Health Clinic leadership, practitioners, and staff to celebrate $375,000 in federal funding she secured for the North Long Beach clinic.
This funding will provide for new dental equipment specifically for a program serving women who are pregnant or recently gave birth, their infants, and children. Funds will also allow TCC Family Health to upgrade their air filtration system to improve indoor environmental air quality at the North Long Beach clinic, located near two major freeways. The funding comes from the Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Package, which includes funding for 15 projects in the Congresswoman’s district.
“Community health centers are a lifeline in our medically underserved communities,”b “They provide comprehensive care to communities who are impacted by increased barriers to access. TCC exemplifies this by providing a medical home to 40,000 patients. I am proud to have secured these funds for the TCC Family Clinic in North Long Beach, which serves mothers, soon-to-be mothers, and their children. This funding will allow them to purchase new equipment for their perinatal and pediatric dental program, and upgrade their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning filtration system, which is so important in this part of Long Beach. Thank you, TCC Family Health, for your continued commitment to serving the families of Long Beach.”
“One thing that we learned during the COVID-19 Pandemic was that robust and safe ventilation systems in our health centers is of utmost importance,” said Dr. Elisa Nicholas, CEO of TCC Family Health. “It also made us reflect on and address the importance of comprehensive health care for pregnant women that included not only medical exams and testing but also dental care, mental health care and concrete supports in times of need. Through this funding TCC has assured that our dental care and the safety of the air that is breathed at the new site will be assured, providing a healthier and brighter future for the mother, her unborn child, infants and young children.”
