Nanette D. Barragán, serving in the U.S. Congress representing California's 44th District since 2017, has shared insights on various socio-economic issues through her recent tweets. Barragán, who succeeded Janice Hahn, has been an advocate for highlighting the contributions of Latino Americans and addressing the economic challenges faced by local businesses due to policies from the previous administration.

On April 22, 2025, Barragán expressed her advocacy for creating a museum on the National Mall dedicated to the contributions of Latino Americans. This museum, she stated, “would recognize and honor the role our community has played in the American story.” She highlighted her collaboration with the United States Hispanic Business Council and Latino business leaders on this initiative.

The following day, Barragán turned her attention to local business challenges in her tweets. She referenced Darrow’s New Orleans Grill on April 23, 2025, praising its culinary influence in the Carson community. She noted, however, that it has become increasingly difficult for the business to maintain affordable pricing due to the “#TrumpTax” contributing to the hike in costs for businesses across the country, including in her district.

Continuing her critique of former President Trump's policies, Barragán highlighted the negative impact of tariffs in another tweet on April 23, 2025. She described these tariffs as "a tax on consumers that harm our ports, cost jobs, and raise prices." She warned of the severe implications for port communities, especially in Los Angeles and Long Beach, if the decline in trade persisted. Barragán urged for the cessation of these policies to prevent further economic damage.

Nanette Barragán, born in Los Angeles in 1976, pursued higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California. Her academic background includes a BA and a JD, supporting her legislative efforts in representing her community and addressing their challenges through policy.
