Congressman Robert Garcia, representing California's 42nd District since 2023, has recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding the impact of former President Donald Trump's trade and tariff policies. In a series of tweets, Garcia, who serves as the co-chair of the PORTS Caucus, criticized these policies for their detrimental effects on the U.S. economy and small businesses.
On March 7, 2025, Garcia tweeted: "As the co-chair of the PORTS Caucus, I can say with certainty that Trump’s chaotic trade and tariff policy is causing massive harm to our supply chain and small businesses across America. Trump is doing absolutely nothing to lower costs for families."
Two days later, on March 9, 2025, he reiterated his stance by stating: "Trump is causing chaos and damaging the economy due to his reckless trade and tariff policies. He should be focused on lowering costs, not causing uncertainty at America’s ports."
Further expanding his critique beyond economic policies, Garcia addressed domestic political issues in a tweet dated March 10, 2025: "House Republicans aren't hosting town halls because people are pissed about DOGE and cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. It's cowardly and they're leaving their constituents behind. If House Republicans won't host town halls in their districts, we will."
