Long Beach, CA – The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) recently honored Long Beach Airport (LGB) Director Cynthia Guidry during the national organization's 12th annual “Women Who Move the Nation” award ceremony on March 15 in Washington, D.C.

“Cynthia Guidry is a recognized leader in the aviation industry, and this much-deserved award underscores how lucky we are to have her captaining operations at Long Beach Airport,” said Mayor Rex Richardson.

Since being named Long Beach Airport Director in 2019, Guidry has expertly led LGB through challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and overseen several major developments as part of LGB’s ongoing $110 million multi-year, Phase II – Terminal Area Improvement Program to make strategic pre-security enhancements to the Airport. Under her leadership, LGB was named one of the Top 10 in the country last year by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

Guidry was one of 10 women celebrated at the COMTO event for making outstanding contributions to the transportation industry. She was presented with the award at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery, where the event included opening remarks by Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

“It is our privilege to honor, elevate and celebrate outstanding women working to advance the transportation industry,” said April Rai, COMTO President & CEO. “The work of these honorees positively impacts the lives of millions and moves the mission of COMTO forward.”

Past COMTO honorees include former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, and COTA Board Trustee and Ohio State Associate Vice President for Local and Community Relations Trudy Bartley.

"I am incredibly grateful to be recognized by COMTO for my leadership at Long Beach Airport, which has a nearly 100-year legacy in the aviation industry,” Guidry said. “This is really a reflection of the incredible team of people we have at LGB who do great work every day to make our award-winning Airport one of the best in the country."

Prior to her role at LGB, Guidry spent more than 25 years in local government leadership positions, including 14 years in airport management, previously serving as Deputy Executive Director for the City of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA). A professionally licensed engineer, her background includes civil engineering and project management. She holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Irvine.
