As part of California’s mandatory organic waste recycling program, keep in mind that along with food scraps, the kitchen fat, oil, and grease (FOG) that’s left over from daily and holiday cooking must be recycled too.

How to recycle fat, oil and grease (FOG)

Keep a leakproof container under your kitchen sink so you can easily add cooled FOG to it after cooking.

Drop off filled containers free of charge at EDCO’s Buyback Center at 2755 California Ave. in Signal Hill.

That’s it! The FOG will ultimately be processed, filtered, and recycled.

Important tips about FOG

Don’t mix FOG with any other oils, such as motor oil or gear oil, as it interferes with the recycling process.

Never put FOG down the drain! Since the grease doesn’t mix with water, it solidifies in the pipes and is the leading cause of drain and sewer backups.
