CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 70: O’Donnell Bill Improves Air Quality Around the Ports by Funding Zero- and Near-Zero Emission Vehicles

California State Assembly District 70 issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.

Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D – Long Beach) introduced Assembly Bill 2860, which will extend funding for the deployment of zero- and near-zero emission heavy-duty vehicle technology to ensure clean air around our ports and beyond.

“Ensuring funding to support clean air vehicles at the ports is a top priority for me,” Assemblymember O’Donnell said. “While we have made great strides, more must be done to ensure the trucking industry continues to have access to clean vehicle technology. AB 2860 will improve air quality and benefit port impacted communities.”

The funding dedicated towards the deployment of zero- and near-zero emission heavy-duty truck technology under the California Clean Truck, Bus, and Off-Road Vehicle Program is set to expire next year. AB 2860 will extend that funding for five more years.

Since its establishment in 2014, the program has been successful in helping California meet its carbon emission reduction goals.

The bill awaits referral to its first policy committee.
