California State Assembly District 43 recently issued the following announcement.
California Small Business Association (CSBA), a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that works to represent and advocate for California’s small businesses, released their 2019 Legislative Honor Roll. Receiving the highest possible honor, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) was named ‘Summa Cum Laude’ for her work promoting the well-being of small businesses and entrepreneurs in her district and throughout the state.
Every year, the CSBA puts forward the Legislative Honor Roll to recognize legislators who listen to and address the needs of small businesses in their district. Legislators are ranked in one of three categories – Summa Cum Laude, Manga Cum Laude, or Cum Laude. The criteria determining their placement includes: the legislator organizing advisory council meetings with small businesses in their district, the legislator’s collaboration with CSBA on small business-related legislation, and their voting record on CSBA priority legislation.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and economy,” said Assemblymember Friedman. “They provide quality jobs and services, and often invest heavily in their communities. As a policymaker, I believe it is essential that we remember the important role small businesses play in our daily lives, and look for ways to encourage entrepreneurship and investment. I’m honored to work with the California Small Business Association and the small businesses in my district to ensure that their voices are heard in Sacramento.”
Assemblymember Friedman, a small business owner herself, has long been a champion for small businesses. As the Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, she has led hearings into the challenges facing small businesses, exploring what they need to succeed and grow. The Assemblymember also organizes town halls on topics of importance to small business owners, and routinely hosts round table meetings with small businesses in her district to get a better sense of their unique needs and perspectives.
