Congressman Robert Garcia, who represents California’s 42nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on April 16 and 17, 2026, addressing national political issues including tax policy, committee hearings, and appointments to the Department of Justice.
On April 16, Garcia criticized former President Donald Trump regarding economic promises and outcomes. He wrote: “Donald Trump promised $1,000 more on your tax return. That didn’t happen. Instead, prices are skyrocketing for everyday Americans while the rich are getting richer. This President is betraying the people he’s supposed to represent.”
Later that day, Garcia commented on Pam Bondi’s absence from a scheduled hearing before his committee. In his tweet he stated: “Pam Bondi skipped showing up for her hearing and she continues to avoid our committee. Unfortunately for her, she has no choice but to negotiate coming in — or she’ll be held in contempt. We want answers from her, and we’re not stopping until we get them.”
On April 17, Garcia addressed concerns about Department of Justice leadership appointments connected to Donald Trump. He tweeted: “The DOJ should not work for the White House; it works for the American people. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche was Trump’s former personal lawyer. He absolutely should not be the next AG.”
Garcia has represented California’s 42nd District since replacing Ken Calvert in 2023 and currently resides in Long Beach after immigrating from Lima, Peru at a young age. He holds a BA from California State University, Long Beach.
