Nanette D. Barragán, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 44th district since 2017, has raised concerns on social media about the potential expiration of health care tax credits and an impending federal government shutdown.
On September 26, 2025, Barragán posted, “Health centers like CaliMed in #SouthGate that provide essential medical services to underserved communities will be hit hard if Republicans in Congress let the health care tax credits expire. @HouseDemocrats continue to fight for YOUR right to affordable and accessible care.”
The following day, she warned of imminent funding issues: “In 3 days, funding will run out and the federal government will shut down thanks to Republicans’ continued attacks on health care. @HouseDemocrats are committed to protecting health care for everyone — Republicans are committed to a shutdown and a health care crisis.”
Later that same day, Barragán reiterated her position: “Republicans need to reverse their policies that will rip health care away from MILLIONS of hard working Americans. @HouseDemocrats have been clear – we’re ready to negotiate to get this done. Republicans will own this shut down – just like they own the health care crisis.”
Barragán has served in Congress since replacing Janice Hahn in 2017. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA (2000) and a Juris Doctor from USC (2005).
