Nanette D. Barragán, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, posted a series of messages on her social media accounts between September 22 and September 23, 2025, addressing cultural celebrations and health care policy.
On September 22, Barragán extended holiday greetings to those observing the Jewish New Year, stating: “Shanah Tovah! Wishing everyone who celebrates a joyful and peaceful Rosh Hashanah. May this new year bring renewal, reflection, and hope.”
The following day, she marked International Week of the Deaf with a message emphasizing recognition and inclusivity: “Happy International Week of the Deaf! This week we celebrate the accomplishments, culture, and languages of our Deaf communities. As we take time to honor our Deaf communities, we must center the conversation around accessibility and inclusion to ensure every voice is” (September 23).
Later that same day, Barragán addressed health care policy in the United States with criticism directed at former President Donald Trump: “Access to affordable health care is not a joke. Trump should not put the health and lives of millions of Americans at risk just because he is afraid to negotiate.” (September 23).
Barragán has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since succeeding Janice Hahn in 2017. Born in Los Angeles in 1976, she continues to reside there. She holds degrees from both UCLA (BA) and USC (JD), reflecting her longstanding ties to Southern California.
