U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since 2017, marked the recent Labor Day holiday and Social Security’s 90th anniversary with a series of posts on social media. In her messages, Barragán addressed issues facing seniors and working Americans.

On August 31, 2025, Barragán posted about Social Security’s milestone: “Social Security turned 90 in August — but Trump’s cuts have meant our seniors face greater challenges to get the benefits they earned for retirement. @HouseDemocrats will continue to fight to protect Social Security because Americans work hard throughout their lives to have”.

She continued her outreach on September 1, recognizing Labor Day and organized labor’s contributions: “Happy Labor Day to hardworking Americans across the country! I’m especially proud to stand with working men and women and celebrate the progress that organized labor has made in strengthening America’s middle class through good jobs, safe working conditions, fair wages and”.

On September 2, Barragán reflected on participating in Wilmington’s annual Labor Day Parade: “At #Wilmington’s annual Labor Day Parade, we celebrated our brothers and sisters of labor! While we celebrate our workers and labor unions every day, #LaborDay2025 is a great reminder that we must continue to fight for workers’ fair wages, benefits, and working conditions, even”.

Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and currently resides there. She graduated from UCLA with a BA in 2000 before earning a JD from USC in 2005. Since entering Congress after replacing Janice Hahn in 2017, she has focused much of her public communication on advocating for worker protections and senior benefits.
