U.S. Congresswoman Nanette D. Barragán, who represents California’s 44th district, used her social media platform this week to highlight community leaders and comment on health care policy. Barragán, a Los Angeles native who has served in Congress since 2017, shared posts between October 8 and 9, 2025, featuring local figures for Hispanic Heritage Month and expressing her stance on health care accessibility.

On October 8, Barragán spotlighted a Lynwood High School teacher as part of her ongoing recognition for Hispanic Heritage Month. She posted, “For #HispanicHeritageMonth, we’re highlighting Audrey Casas! Audrey is a teacher at #Lynwood High School who makes sure that her classroom is always a safe space for her students. She makes sure her students at Lynwood High School have the materials they need and is available”.

Later that evening, Barragán addressed health care access and partisan divisions in Congress. On October 9, she wrote, “Health care should be accessible for EVERYONE — but Republicans aren’t trying to solve the health care crisis they created. In fact, they’re raising costs and making it harder for Americans to get the care they need. @HouseDemocrats will continue to tell Republicans to come back”.

Continuing her Hispanic Heritage Month recognitions, Barragán honored a labor leader from Wilmington on October 9: “We’re celebrating #Wilmington’s Albert Ramirez for #HispanicHeritageMonth! A 3rd-generation member of ILWU, and current president of ILWU Local 56 Environmental Hazmat & Ship Scalers Union out of #SanPedro, Albert is a leader and organizer who always goes to bat for his”.

Barragán has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since 2017, succeeding Janice Hahn. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and holds degrees from UCLA and USC. Barragán’s district covers parts of Los Angeles County and includes communities such as Lynwood and Wilmington.
