U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since 2017, used her social media platform to address concerns about health care affordability and the ongoing government shutdown in early October 2025.
On October 3, Barragán referenced a study by KFF regarding health insurance affordability: “KFF finds a majority of Americans that buy their own health insurance won’t be able to afford it if health care tax credits expire. Democrats and most Americans agree: we need a bipartisan solution to reopen the government and lower the cost of health care. Republicans need to https://t.co/v2l2wiqC4G”.
Later that day, she commented on congressional activity during the shutdown: “.@HouseDemocrats are waiting for Republicans to join them and get back to work for the American people. But Republicans decided to extend their vacation so they can continue the shutdown and stop federal workers from getting paid — all while hardworking Americans begin to get https://t.co/uPWBaS2jiH”.
On October 4, Barragán reported visiting Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, stating: “Visited @HarborUCLA and spoke with Chief Medical Officer Griselda Gutierrez to hear what the Republican cuts to health care mean for hospitals and patients. These cuts will make ER wait times longer, hospitals less efficient, and patient outcomes worse. @HouseDemocrats are https://t.co/OIKVtnbkEo”.
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and currently resides there. She holds a BA from UCLA (2000) and a JD from USC (2005). She succeeded Janice Hahn as representative of California’s 44th district after being elected in 2017.
