U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on February 25, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s immigration and economic policies.
In one tweet, Barragán described the case of an immigrant detained by ICE despite having no criminal record. She wrote: “Gerardo’s dad has no criminal record. Lived in the US for decades. A family man and workers’ rights activist. He was still arrested and detained by ICE. This is the kind of people Trump is targeting. And that’s why I and Rep. @Ilhan Omar invited Gerardo as our guest to the https://t.co/qMLJC6cW2M” (posted February 25, 2026).
Barragán also addressed the State of the Union address delivered by Trump, stating: “During the State of the Union, Trump will lie and try to tell you that he’s kept his promise to deliver for Americans. He didn’t. Families are crushed by the cost of basic needs, like food and rent.” (posted February 25, 2026).
She further criticized Trump’s claims about economic progress during his presidency: “Barely a few minutes into his speech and Trump is already lying. Costs are UP, not down. Americans can feel it. Since Trump took office, the average household has paid $1625 in higher costs.” (posted February 25, 2026).
Nanette Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there today. She graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in 2000 before earning her JD from USC in 2005.
Since taking office in Congress after succeeding Janice Hahn in 2017, Barragán has been an active voice on issues related to immigration reform and economic inequality.
