Nanette D. Barragán, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, criticized former President Donald Trump and House Republicans in a series of posts on November 5, 2025, regarding the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Americans receiving SNAP benefits.
In her first post at 16:10 UTC, Barragán stated, “Donald Trump & House Republicans are OK with working Americans going hungry. We’re on Day 36 of the Trump/Republican shutdown, and House Republicans are STILL on an extended vacation — while Americans on SNAP wait to hear when they’ll receive their Nov. benefits and how much less”.
Later that day at 19:39 UTC, she commented on the Supreme Court’s consideration of tariffs imposed during Trump’s presidency: “As the Supreme Court debated the legality of Trump’s reckless tariffs today, there is no debate they have increased costs for Americans.
Grocery prices are up for coffee, beef, fresh produce, and more. It’s harder for families to put food on the table now than it was before the”.
By 23:21 UTC, Barragán addressed constituents directly about assistance resources amid funding concerns: “SNAP benefits still are not being fully funded in November because of the Trump/Republican shutdown.
If you receive SNAP benefits and need additional assistance, there are local resources in CA-44 and across LA that are offering relief. Call my office for more information: https://t.co/IdCBH8t6jy“.
Barragán has served as a member of Congress since replacing Janice Hahn in 2017. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. Barragán graduated from UCLA with a BA in 2000 and earned her JD from USC in 2005.
