U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district since 2017, used her social media platform on September 25, 2025, to criticize Republican actions regarding government funding and health care policy. Barragán also raised concerns about a security breach affecting service members and elected officials.
In a post published at 03:47 UTC on September 25, Barragán stated, “Trump and Republicans want to shut the government down and now want to use THEIR SHUTDOWN as an excuse to fire thousands of Americans.”
Later that day at 17:10 UTC, she addressed health care policy issues by writing, “House Republicans are about to let critical health care tax credits expire. They’ve already cut billions in Medicaid funding in their Big Ugly Law. They’re making health care more expensive and less accessible for working Americans.
Republicans refuse to work with”
At 19:07 UTC on the same day, Barragán commented on a reported security incident involving sensitive personal information: “This is a dangerous breach. All current & retired service members need to know that their personal information is safe – this could also put an elected official’s safety in jeopardy. There need to be repercussions for any use or abuse of this sensitive information.”
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2000) and a JD from the University of Southern California (2005). She succeeded Janice Hahn as representative for California’s 44th district in Congress.
