Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 44th district since 2017, has expressed her concerns on social media regarding the proposed legislation known as “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” Barragán, who succeeded Janice Hahn and holds degrees from UCLA and USC, took to Twitter to criticize the bill and its potential impacts.
On July 3, 2025, Barragán tweeted: “Well, here we go again. We’ve been here all day … and we’re still waiting for Republicans to call the vote on the Big Ugly Bill.” She indicated that the delay in voting was due to the bill’s severe consequences: “this bill will rip health care away from millions of Americans, let families go hungry.”
Later that day, she questioned her Republican colleagues’ support for the bill in another tweet: “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will harm tens of thousands of Californians — so why would my Republican colleagues vote for it?” She emphasized that many constituents would lose their healthcare and food assistance if the bill passed.
In a subsequent post early in the morning on July 3rd, Barragán highlighted efforts by Democratic leaders against the legislation. She tweeted: “On the House floor this early morning where Leader @RepJeffries is sharing stories of Americans who will be devastated by cuts from Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” She affirmed that House Democrats were united in opposition to what they view as harmful cuts affecting hardworking Americans.
Nanette Barragán continues to advocate for policies she believes will benefit her constituents and opposes those she views as detrimental.
