U.S. Congresswoman Nanette D. Barragán, who represents California’s 44th district, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing national and state-level political issues.
On August 9, 2025, Barragán responded to actions involving former President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom by stating, “Glad to see @CAGovernor Newsom call this out for what it is — extortion. Trump wants to cripple one of the top universities in the country as part of his personal beef with California. We won’t back down from this bully.”
Later that day, she shared an encounter in Long Beach with Subodh, a star from Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum” and an autism advocate. In her post dated August 9, 2025, Barragán wrote: “Grabbed coffee in #LongBeach with Netflix Love on the Spectrum star and autism advocate Subodh! In our conversation, Subodh shared how programs like Medicaid help people with autism thrive and live independently — despite what RFK Jr. and the Trump admin says. You can bet that”
On August 12, 2025, Barragán criticized recent Republican-led legislation affecting economic policy: “Trump & Republicans Big Ugly Law screws working families to give even more to the rich and elite. Don’t take my word for it — that’s what the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office just found. Wish I could say I’m surprised, but this is exactly what we should expect at”
Barragán has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Janice Hahn as representative for California’s 44th district. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA earned in 2000 and a Juris Doctor from USC completed in 2005.
