U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who serves California’s 44th district in Congress, addressed economic and civic issues in a series of posts on September 16, 2025.
In a post from that morning, Barragán criticized recent tariff policies supported by former President Trump and House Republicans. She wrote, “REMINDER: Your mornings are more expensive thanks to Trump and House Republicans. House Republicans voted to continue Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, including a 50% tax on YOUR coffee beans. Yet another example of rising costs under a Republican-controlled Congress and White House.” (September 16, 2025).
Later the same day, Barragán marked National Voter Registration Day with two posts encouraging voter participation. In English she stated, “Happy National Voter Registration Day! Elections are the foundation of our democracy and voting is how we can make our voices heard. Visit https://t.co/WISqxWDUZR to check your voter registration status to make sure you are prepared for Election Day.” (September 16, 2025). She also posted in Spanish: “¡Feliz Día Nacional del Registro de Votantes! Las elecciones son la base de nuestra democracia y votar es la forma en que nos aseguramos que nuestra voz sea escuchada. Visite https://t.co/kBVVPbKmi6 para verificar su registro y asegurar que estes preparado para el Día de” (September 16, 2025).
Barragán has represented California’s 44th District since replacing Janice Hahn in 2017 and resides in Los Angeles where she was born in 1976. She graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in 2000 before earning her law degree from the University of Southern California in 2005.
