Nanette D. Barragán, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, has raised concerns on social media regarding the impact of government decisions on food assistance and health care access in her community.
On November 4, 2025, Barragán posted about the federal administration’s approach to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding: “Trump admin refuses to fully fund SNAP. Trump is upset that 2 courts had to step in to force some money to go out the door — because he really wants Americans who rely on SNAP to go hungry. Food on people’s tables is not a game! @HouseDemocrats stand with the American people and”.
In another message dated November 5, 2025, Barragán addressed health care accessibility issues: “Our neighbors will have an increasingly harder time accessing health care services because of the Republican health care crisis. Visited the Tzu Chi Health Center in #Wilmington to meet with some of our dedicated local health care providers who deliver affordable care — from”.
Later that day, she highlighted efforts by local organizations during a prolonged government shutdown: “Organizations like the YMCA in #Wilmington work hard to keep our #CA44 families from going hungry. It’s day 35 of the shutdown. SNAP ran out of funding on November 1st. As long as the government remains closed, Americans who need SNAP dollars to survive will not receive their”.
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and currently resides there. She earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA in 2000 and a law degree from USC in 2005. She succeeded Janice Hahn as representative for California’s 44th district and has focused much of her public communication on issues affecting food security and access to health services for her constituents.
