Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, recently addressed concerns about the potential federal government shutdown and its impact on American communities in a series of posts on X.
On September 30, 2025, Barragán wrote: “Trump and Republicans are about to shutdown the federal government – and Trump’s FCC Chair decided now is a good time to also cut kids’ internet access for their schoolwork. Today’s vote ends federal support for schools and libraries in rural and low-income communities to fund”. The post highlighted her criticism of actions that could affect internet access for students in underserved areas.
Later that evening, on October 1, 2025, Barragán invited followers to join a live discussion: “We’re still going strong! Join me live on @HouseDemocrats’ livestream to discuss how the government shutdown and Republicans’ health care crisis will harm working Americans: https://t.co/WtiTn0pkjH”. She reiterated this invitation in another post just minutes later: “We’re still going strong! Join me live on @HouseDemocrats’ livestream to discuss how the government shutdown and Republicans’ health care crisis will harm working Americans: https://t.co/mwN89Zji1d”.
Barragán has represented California’s 44th District since succeeding Janice Hahn in 2017. Born in Los Angeles in 1976, she continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a BA from UCLA (2000) and a JD from USC (2005).
