Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several policy issues via her social media posts. Barragán, born in Los Angeles in 1976 and an alumna of both UCLA and USC, focused on health care policy and agricultural trade developments in her statements.
On July 10, 2025, Barragán posted about a House Democrats’ Steering & Policy Town Hall taking place in New Orleans. She stated: “HAPPENING NOW: @HouseDemocrats’ Steering & Policy Town Hall in New Orleans hosted by @reptroycarter with Leader @repjeffries where we will talk about how cuts to Medicaid in Trump’s #BigUglyLaw hurt Americans & what House Dems are doing to protect your health care.”
The following day, July 11, 2025, Barragán commented on legislative support for the law referenced at the town hall. She wrote: “Not a single @HouseDemocrats, or @SenateDems, voted for Trump’s Big Ugly Law – because we know it will harm the American people. But Republicans chose to prioritize tax breaks for their billionaire buddies over the health care of our working families.”
Later on July 11, 2025, Barragán discussed the upcoming expiration of the Tomato Suspension Agreement (TSA). She noted: “The Tomato Suspension Agreement is set to expire July 14. If it ends, Mexican tomatoes will face a 17% tariff— raising prices for U.S. consumers and hurting American businesses. For 30 years, the TSA has ensured quality tomatoes and supported jobs across the supply chain.”
Barragán replaced Janice Hahn as representative of California’s 44th district in 2017 and continues to reside in Los Angeles.
