Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several issues affecting Los Angeles and national policy through a series of social media posts. Barragán, a lifelong resident of Los Angeles and an alumna of both UCLA and USC Law School, commented on law enforcement actions in LA, criticized recent Republican legislative decisions regarding Medicaid, and highlighted a new urban park project.
On July 13, 2025, Barragán criticized what she described as indiscriminate targeting of Latinos in Los Angeles by certain terror operations. She stated: “Your terror operation is indiscriminately going after all Latinos in LA – even citizens. LA is a vibrant & culturally diverse city where Latinos have always been a major part of every day life. You’re the one who made LA look like a war zone. If you don’t like LA – then just”.
Later that day, Barragán addressed healthcare policy following congressional votes on legislation she referred to as “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” In her July 13 post she wrote: “Republicans voted against their constituents’ interest and for Trump’s Big Ugly Bill. States like Louisiana heavily rely on Medicaid — but Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Scalise celebrated taking health care away from their constituents. @HouseDemocrats believe ALL”.
In another message posted on July 13, Barragán shared news about local community development efforts in South Gate: “Yesterday in #SouthGate, we celebrated the grand opening of the Urban Orchard, a new 30-acre park along the LA River. This new green space, which also includes a fruit tree orchard and wetlands, was made possible through federal, state, local, and nonprofit partnership. Proud”.
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there while serving her district in Congress.
