U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district since 2017, used her social media platform on September 25, 2025, to address concerns about immigration enforcement in schools and the looming expiration of health care tax credits.
In a post published at 19:21 UTC, Barragán stated, “Students belong in school. But right now, Trump and Republicans are targeting our immigrant communities — which means students and families are scared to go to school because they are worried ICE will be there to take them away. Teachers and school leaders are concerned about https://t.co/2uuh0ybM8W”.
Later that day at 21:53 UTC, she commented on potential government funding issues: “In 5 days, Republicans will shut down the government — because they refuse to protect millions of working Americans from losing their health care and keeping millions more from seeing their premiums skyrocket. I partnered with @lacarehealth, @CoveredCA, providers, union members, https://t.co/OIyUa1Nhxa”.
At 23:04 UTC on the same day, Barragán highlighted the impact of expiring health care tax credits: “Health care tax credits are set to expire soon — and MILLIONS of Americans would be at risk of losing affordable coverage. Even if you do not rely on tax credits, your premiums will skyrocket because insurers will force the extra cost of unpaid medical bills on to those that”.
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds a BA from UCLA (2000) and a JD from USC (2005). Her congressional service began after succeeding Janice Hahn in 2017 as representative for California’s 44th District.
