Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, recently addressed several pressing national issues in a series of posts on her official social media account.
On September 10, 2025, Barragán commented on a recent school shooting in Colorado: “It is heartbreaking that three people were just shot in a Colorado high school, two of whom are students.
We MUST end gun violence. We should all feel safe in our own country.
My prayers are with the victims who are currently in critical condition and all those who have been” (posted September 10, 2025).
Later that evening, she addressed health care policy and tax breaks for wealthy Americans: “A tax break for 1 millionaire = ripping health care away from 4 Americans.
That’s 4 Americans who might ignore chest pains to avoid costly ER bills. That’s 4 Americans who won’t be able to get a yearly check-up.
Health care is a fundamental right. Americans shouldn’t have to” (posted September 11, 2025).
On the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Barragán wrote: “Today, we honor the lives lost, the heroic actions of first responders, and the resilience of survivors on September 11, 2001. We will #NeverForget the courage, unity, and strength that came in the face of tragedy.” (posted September 11, 2025).
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds degrees from UCLA and USC and succeeded Janice Hahn as representative for California’s 44th district.
