U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since 2017, recently addressed the impacts of a federal government shutdown and highlighted local community advocacy efforts in a series of posts on X.
On October 10, Barragán posted about her meeting with air traffic controllers at Long Beach Airport, discussing the effects of the government shutdown on essential federal workers. She wrote, “Spoke with air traffic controllers at Long Beach Airport to hear what the Republican shutdown means for them and the thousands of essential federal workers who may not receive their paychecks. Air traffic controllers are key to keeping our skies safe and efficient for travelers — https://t.co/e2y4njna4g”.
The following day, she criticized Republican lawmakers over their handling of both the shutdown and health care issues. In a post dated October 11, Barragán stated, “Republicans already shut down the government because they refuse to address their health care crisis. Now Trump is firing hardworking American civil servants and Republicans stand by and do nothing. Let’s be clear – workers have not been fired in previous shutdowns. https://t.co/fcAHoai4ry”.
Also on October 11, Barragán recognized Ricardo Pulido during Hispanic Heritage Month for his community work in Carson. She wrote, “We’re celebrating #Carson’s Ricardo Pulido for Hispanic Heritage Month! Ricardo is a longtime community activist that advocates for environmental justice in our community and serves as a board member for @cfase_. In addition to his passion for environmental justice, he provides https://t.co/XW3Hjd1g9F”.
