U.S. Congresswoman Nanette D. Barragán, who represents California’s 44th district, addressed several issues on her social media account on August 27, 2025. Barragán’s posts covered the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a violent act against children at a house of worship, and her experience working alongside restaurant servers in Wilmington.
In an early morning post on August 27, Barragán called attention to civilian casualties in Gaza: “.@SecRubio: Babies in Gaza are being killed by bombs and starvation. This is horrific.
Heed @RepPressley & @RepPettersen’s calls— it’s long past time for a ceasefire and a surge of humanitarian aid, especially baby formula.” The congresswoman echoed the demands of other lawmakers for an immediate ceasefire and increased humanitarian assistance.
Later that day, Barragán responded to reports of violence at a place of worship involving children. On August 27 she posted: “A horrific act of absolute cowardice— to commit an act of violence towards praying children in a house of worship.
While our thoughts and prayers are with the children, families and all those impacted, we must also take action. We must end gun violence — NOW.”
That evening, Barragán described participating in a work program with restaurant staff: “Stepped into the shoes of our restaurant workers to be a “Server for an Hour” at Los Tres Cochinitos in #Wilmington alongside @onefairwage. Servers across #LosAngeles and the country are on their feet for hours and hours every day in order to make a living — but they’ll tell you”
Barragán has represented California’s 44th District since replacing Janice Hahn in 2017. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. Barragán holds degrees from UCLA (BA) and USC (JD).
