U.S. Representative Nanette D. Barragán, who has represented California’s 44th district in Congress since 2017, recently addressed several issues through her social media posts, including the release of Epstein files, concerns about the current Health and Human Services Secretary, and efforts to defend the independence of the Federal Reserve.

On September 3, 2025, Barragán stated her participation in a bipartisan effort regarding transparency around the Epstein case: “Last night I joined over 100 of my colleagues in signing the discharge petition from Democrat @RepRoKhanna and Republican @RepThomasMassie to force the release of the Epstein files. Only 4 Republicans have signed on and Speaker Johnson is trying to kill it — what are they hiding”.

Later that day, she raised concerns about public health leadership under HHS Secretary Kennedy: “Experts say HHS Secretary Kennedy is bad for Americans’ health. He’s fired thousands of CDC health workers and canceled millions of critical research funds. Americans are actually less protected from cancer and other diseases. Our CDC workers are the frontline to protect our”.

On September 4, Barragán announced a new legislative initiative focused on central bank governance: “Today I introduced a resolution with 22 of my colleagues to defend the independence of the Federal Reserve Chairman & Board of Governors. The Trump Administration’s attempts to politicize and intimidate the Fed threaten the stability of our economy & every family that depends”.

Barragán has been an active member of Congress since replacing Janice Hahn in 2017 as representative for California’s 44th district. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. Her academic background includes a BA from UCLA (2000) and a JD from USC (2005).
