U.S. Congresswoman Nanette D. Barragán, who represents California’s 44th district and has served in the House since 2017, recently used her social media platform to address several federal policy issues impacting her constituents. In a series of posts made between September 11 and September 12, 2025, Barragán commented on education funding cuts, IRS delays affecting local nonprofits, and changes to reproductive healthcare access.

On September 11, Barragán criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent decisions regarding educational funding: “Trump continued his attack on education this week by cutting grants for minority-serving colleges and universities – including taking $ away from @DominguezHills in my district. These grants aren’t discriminatory — they give opportunities to minority and disadvantaged students”.

Later that same day, she highlighted her office’s efforts in assisting a local nonprofit with an ongoing issue involving the Internal Revenue Service: “When @HabitatLA didn’t hear back from the IRS on their Employee Retention Credit refund, they called #TeamBarragán! Our team started working with the IRS right away to get Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA’s year-old application moving through the system. We stayed on top of”.

On September 12, Barragán addressed changes in reproductive health policy and their consequences: “Trump wants to rip away the reproductive freedom of Americans and insert himself into choices about our bodies. Over a million Americans are now unable to use their Medicaid insurance at Planned Parenthood centers and hundreds of clinics will be at risk of closing. This will”.

Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. She earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA in 2000 before obtaining a law degree from USC in 2005. Since succeeding Janice Hahn in Congress eight years ago, Barragán has focused much of her legislative attention on supporting educational institutions serving disadvantaged communities as well as advocating for accessible healthcare options for all Californians.
