Nanette D. Barragán, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, recently shared her thoughts on several pressing issues through social media posts. Barragán, who has been active in political discourse, expressed concerns about economic policies and celebrated local artistic talent.
On May 10, 2025, Barragán criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies by stating that he had promised to lower prices but instead “made prices go up.” She further commented on Trump’s statement regarding traffic slowdowns at ports being beneficial: “Mr. President, it is NOT a good thing & will further increase prices.” She attributed tariffs to causing layoffs and reduced work shifts at the ports.
In another post dated May 11, 2025, Barragán expressed gratitude towards participants of the annual Congressional Art Competition. She acknowledged the contributions of student artists from her district by saying: “Every year I am so impressed by the artistic talent of students from our #CA44 communities.” She highlighted their ability to tell powerful stories and inspire hope for a better future.
Later on May 11, Barragán addressed potential cuts to Medicaid funding with a focus on its impact on healthcare access. Her message was clear: “You can’t cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid without cutting people off from care.” By sharing Deaka’s story as an example, she emphasized the real-world consequences of such budget reductions.
Nanette Barragán continues to serve in Congress while residing in Los Angeles. Born in Los Angeles in 1976 and educated at UCLA and USC Law School, she remains an advocate for her constituents’ needs.
