Nanette D. Barragán, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 44th district since 2017, used her social media platform on September 17, 2025, to address several political issues and commemorate Constitution Day.
In a post marking the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, Barragán wrote: “Happy Constitution Day!
Today we celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Our Constitution lays the foundation for our rights, freedoms, and responsibilities as citizens. Now more than ever, we must defend our Constitution and uphold the values our” (September 17, 2025).
Later that day, Barragán criticized Republican policies regarding economic issues and healthcare costs: “Republicans are doing nothing to bring down costs. Their policies and lack of action are making life more expensive for Americans.
ACA tax credits bring out-of-pocket costs down and make health care more affordable and accessible. Republicans’ failure to act is an assault on” (September 17, 2025).
She continued her critique in another statement posted that evening: “Trump and Republicans made a promise to bring jobs back to the U.S. They’ve FAILED – we see more and more people that can’t find work.
Unemployment is a challenge for anyone, especially now with prices on the rise. Republican policies will make it even harder to get by.” (September 17, 2025).
Barragán has represented California’s 44th District in Congress since succeeding Janice Hahn in 2017. She was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there at age 46. Barragán graduated from UCLA with a BA in 2000 before earning her JD from USC in 2005.
