U.S. Congresswoman Nanette D. Barragán, representing California’s 44th district since 2017, has used her Twitter account to voice concerns on a range of issues including food safety, law enforcement accountability, and congressional funding disputes.
On April 29, 2026, Barragán posted about potential health risks in children’s foods, stating: “Did you know that there might be chemicals in baby food and toddler food that could be linked to cancer? We need to bring back the FDA staff Trump cut that conduct oversight over these harmful chemicals. Parents are not chemists.”
The following day, April 30, she criticized former President Donald Trump and his administration regarding a law enforcement officer’s actions: “Trump, Stephen Miller, and this Admin continue to reach new lows. He shot and killed an unarmed woman in broad daylight – he should be under investigation for murder, not back on the job.”
Later on April 30, Barragán commented on legislative negotiations related to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding: “FINALLY! We could’ve done this a month ago when @HouseDemocrats introduced a bill to fund all of DHS, except ICE and Border Patrol. Republicans chose to keep DHS shut down for another month so they could try and fund ICE’s terror tactics. Democrats held our ground and got TSA,”
Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and continues to reside there. She holds degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (BA) and the University of Southern California (JD). Since succeeding Janice Hahn in Congress in 2017, Barragán has maintained an active role in legislative debates affecting both her district and national policy.
