Nanette D. Barragán, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 44th district since 2017, recently expressed her views on various topics through a series of tweets. Barragán, who has served in Congress following Janice Hahn’s tenure, addressed issues ranging from political corruption to community appreciation and economic concerns.
On May 11, 2025, Barragán shared her thoughts on political corruption, stating “Corruption – plain and simple. Elon Musk bought access to power and in return has seen multiple actions against his companies’ alleged bad practices stall or disappear. This is a presidency for billionaire donors NOT for the American people.”
Later that day, Barragán extended her greetings for Mothers’ Day with a message acknowledging the contributions of mothers and caregivers: “Happy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers, mother figures, guardians, and caregivers whose strength, love, and resilience have shaped our communities and our country! Feliz Día de las Madres a todas las madres, figuras maternas, tutoras y cuidadoras cuya fuerza, amor y resiliencia”
In another tweet on May 11th, she raised concerns about economic implications due to shipping issues at major ports: “ZERO ships scheduled into our San Pedro Bay ports of @PortofLA and @portoflongbeach on Friday out of China. ZERO! Dockworkers, truck drivers, small businesses in our port communities will all suffer. Also will result in higher prices & empty shelves across the country.”
Nanette Barragán was born in Los Angeles in 1976 and resides there currently. She holds a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2000) and a JD from the University of Southern California (2005).
