Congressman Robert Garcia, who represents California’s 42nd district, has used his social media platform to call for the release of the Epstein files and an end to the ongoing government shutdown. Garcia posted a series of statements on X (formerly Twitter) on October 8 and 9, 2025, criticizing both Speaker Johnson and former President Trump for their roles in the current political impasse.
Later the same day, Garcia addressed the effects of the government shutdown, writing, “Trump’s shutdown is leading to staffing shortages and flight cancellations. Air traffic controllers are exhausted and—in some cases—not able to work. Soon, federal airport workers will start missing paychecks. Trump needs to stop health care cuts and reopen the government NOW.”
On October 9, Garcia continued his criticism, saying, “Speaker Johnson could swear in Adelita Grijalva TODAY, if he wanted. Donald Trump could release the Epstein files TODAY, if he wanted… This is clearly a White House cover-up. Release the files, NOW.”
Robert Garcia has represented California’s 42nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, succeeding Ken Calvert. Born in Lima, Peru in 1977, Garcia is 45 years old and resides in Long Beach. He earned his BA from California State University, Long Beach.
