Congressman Robert Garcia, who represents California’s 42nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account regarding recent actions taken by the Oversight Committee and ongoing concerns about voting rights. Garcia, who has served in Congress since 2023 and resides in Long Beach, addressed developments involving former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and commented on a Supreme Court decision affecting the Voting Rights Act.
On April 29, 2026, Garcia wrote: “45 minutes after we filed contempt charges against Pam Bondi for illegally defying our subpoena, Oversight Republicans finally announce a date for her testimony. Survivors deserve justice, and we will do whatever it takes to get to the truth.”
Later that day, he addressed concerns about recent judicial decisions: “The Supreme Court’s decision to attack the Voting Rights Act is a real threat to representation and our democracy. Congress must pass legislation to restore the protections of the VRA and ensure fair representation in government.”
In another statement posted on April 30, 2026, Garcia reiterated actions taken against Bondi: “After we put the pressure on her by filing contempt charges today, Pam Bondi finally scheduled her hearing before the Oversight Committee. We look forward to seeing her — but if she skips out, we’re holding her in contempt.”
Robert Garcia was born in Lima, Peru in 1977 and graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He replaced Ken Calvert as representative for California’s 42nd district following the 2022 election.
